Zimbabwe’s multi-award-winning world champion and martial artist, Wilfred Mashaya, popularly known as Zim Ninja, received a prestigious honor at the International Budo Bushi Hall of Fame in Poland on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The Hall of Fame, whose name translates to “Martial Arts Warrior,” recognized Mashaya’s remarkable contributions to martial arts and his role as a global ambassador for Zimbabwe.
The event, organized by the International Martial Arts Association and International Self Defense Association, was presided over by Grand Master Stanislaw Majchrzak. Mashaya’s induction is a testament to his dedication, discipline, and commitment to martial arts. The recognition was based on qualities such as sincerity, loyalty, respect, bravery, and the ability to inspire future generations.
At the ceremony, Mashaya was awarded the Ninja Warrior Award, recognizing him as the first certified Ninja from Zimbabwe and celebrating his efforts to promote martial arts in the country. Additionally, he received a 6th Dan certificate in Kobudo, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s leading practitioners in weaponry martial arts. His pioneering efforts in Kobudo have put Zimbabwe on the global martial arts map, earning him admiration from the international community.

These accolades underscore his impact on martial arts and his contributions to self-defense training in Zimbabwe, including empowering women and the youth through his programs.
The awards were presented in front of esteemed guests, including Grand Master Bernd Hohle (actor, multiple world champion, and Guinness World Record holder), Professor Dr. Tadeusz Ambrozy, Dr. Wieslaw Bigos, and World Record Champion GM Thomas Teige. Mashaya represented Zimbabwe alongside inductees from over 20 countries, including Romania, Israel, India, the United States, and Germany.
Mashaya’s demonstration during the ceremony was a highlight. Performing a weapon demonstration to Leonard Zhakata’s song “Pane Ziya Pane Dovi,” he introduced Zimbabwean music to the international audience, proudly showcasing his heritage.”
Mashaya’s track record is unparalleled. He is a multiple Hall of Famer, a holder of four black belts (Kyokushin, Ninjutsu, Kobudo, and Self-Defense), and a recipient of countless awards. Notable past achievements include being named the 2018 Zimbabwe Sportsperson of the Year and winning the Regional Sportsman of the Year Award in 2019.
In 2024, Mashaya achieved remarkable success, winning five medals (four gold and one silver) in England, followed by four medals (two gold and two silver) in Wales. He also received a Humanitarian Award in Montenegro for his efforts to use martial arts as a tool for community empowerment.”
Zim Ninja is expected back in Zimbabwe this week after his triumphant mission in Poland. He plans to take a team of 10 or more athletes to the World Championships this year, with a focus on developing junior athletes and promoting gender balance in martial arts.
As he continues to break barriers, Mashaya’s journey inspires a generation, proving that passion, hard work, and dedication can elevate Zimbabwe to the global stage.
