Zimbabwean-South African artist TheLastletter last week released her latest project, Stay marking her debut singing in the Zimbabwean language of Shona. This release carries a unique twist—featuring three different versions of the same song.

The rap version includes rising Zimbabwean hip-hop star Paintafresco (@paintafresco), while the two melodic versions feature Zimbabwean singers Maye.Musoni (@maye.musoni) and Rudoson. The track is produced by Zimbabwean producer CalvinMadeIt.
Stay is a deeply emotional Afro-pop record that delves into the heart-wrenching feeling of love growing distant and cold. The song explores the longing for a partner to stay and rekindle the passion and warmth that once defined the relationship.
“When I heard the beat, I knew I had to sing in Shona. When I opened my mouth, the first words that came out were ‘throwback to the day Tichingofara’—which means ‘throwback to the days when we were happy.’ At the time, I was going through a romantic situation that deeply affected me. I just wanted to express my heartbreak and how much I missed how we used to be. But I couldn’t just say it in a message—I had to say it in a song.”
Accompanying the release, three visualizers will be available on YouTube, each capturing the mood of the different versions of Stay. The song will be available for streaming on all major platforms, allowing listeners to experience the raw emotion and storytelling that define TheLastletter’s artistry.
