St George’s College and Christian Brothers College emerged victorious in the senior and junior categories respectively as the 2025 CBZ Schools Debate Championships concluded in a thrilling finale on Saturday, June 21, at Dominican Convent High School.

The two-day tournament brought together 22 schools from across Zimbabwe in an intellectual showcase that saw discussion of economic, governance and world affairs.”
Held across multiple venues at the host school, the competition challenged students to exhibit reasoning, research, and public speaking prowess.
After four preliminary rounds, top-performing schools advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday morning, intensifying the contest. Semi-finals followed shortly after, paving the way for the grand finale by afternoon.
In the junior division, Christian Brothers College from Bulawayo claimed first place, followed by St Ignatius College and Dominican Convent Harare. The senior title went to St George’s College, with Oriel Boys High securing second place and Dominican Convent Bulawayo finishing third.
The closing ceremony, held later in the afternoon, was attended by notable guests including Mr. Munyaradzi Gwanzura, Director of Culture who was also the Master of Ceremony; Sister Kudzai Mutsure O.P, Head of Dominican Convent; and Mr. Manatsa Gaka, CBZ Group Head of Marketing and Brand as well as parents and teachers. All praised the students for their composure, critical engagement, and academic discipline.
The tournament was made possible through a US$30,000 sponsorship by CBZ Holdings, covering training sessions, logistics, and prizes—including $1,000 cash awards for each of the two winning schools.
The CBZ Schools Debate Tournament continues to set a high standard for youth-focused educational engagement—nurturing critical thinkers and future leaders for Zimbabwe and beyond.
