Scrip Mula, Holy Ten, and Blu Modeccai Drop ‘Vakomana’ – A Hip Hop Phenomenon

Scrip Mula’s indelible footprint is the illustrious work he has put in with record label Mula Nation. History can as well frown at us to say that this stable has achieved greater success than any when it comes to Zimbabwean hip hop.

It is quite a scathing standpoint but banking on the logic of how much success the label has accumulated since its birth in 2017. Artists such as Saintfloew and Voltz JT are mirrored as the upper echelon of the genre as of today. Hence every reason to vouch for Scrip.

The newest release Vakomana is a poetic addition to only his industry but personal gratification. He invites Holy Ten to re-do the song which was part of Scripian 2, an album released two years ago. The album has a memory of making an instant cultural impact despite dropping when the curtains were within touching distance to signal an end to the year. Voltz JT walked away with album of the year at the ZimHipHop Awards that year.

Nonetheless, broader consensus-maintained sanity in acknowledging that Scripian 2 had bangers. The album had songs like Chipo featuring Gregg, Different with afro-dancehall artists; Nutty O and Poptain.

Scrip Mula’s album would also court verses from top acts at the time and that alone managed to grease the hands of gatekeepers – his intentions were uncontainable.

Mula Nation reserves its top billing status as one of the go-to record labels for the young and upcoming hip hop artists. The cost of bringing Holy Ten to a feature could have reasonably included goodwill. Vakomana is a track by CEOs of the ‘biggest’ record labels in hip hop. One has been the unsung hero in the elementary trajectory of the genre whilst the other is a lauded gamechanger. The cycle is more than what meets the eye. Saintfloew is a common denominator as an artist who picked his first step with Mula Nation and weaned off at Samanyanga. The other trivial implication of Scrip Mula and Holy Ten is that the latter’s biggest rival is also another ‘product’ of Mula Nation.

Moving on, the song Vakomana extends videographer Blu Moddercai’s run this year which has been topical among critics. His latest visual expedition with Vakomana brought him to the fore as a leading director in 2024. Vakomana has the propensity to scale the height of a hit song, a right exclusive to the taste of the masses.

Scrip Mula’s work is surely remarkable but it cannot be taken lightly what they can do to increase the label’s visibility not only for what they have done but what they can do given their obvious potential.
