Happy Mpofu, the founder and executive director of the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (PRACAs), is a passionate advocate for arts and culture in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Launched in Pumula, a vibrant suburb in Bulawayo, PRACAs celebrates outstanding achievements in the arts, community development, and social impact, promoting inclusivity, diversity, and creative expression.

Mpofu’s journey into the arts is rooted in a deep belief in its power to transform communities. “The arts have the power to bring people together, inspire social change, and celebrate our differences,” he says. Under his leadership, PRACAs has grown into a significant event featuring live performances, exhibitions, and award presentations, with a reach extending beyond Pumula’s borders.
Awards and Recognition
Mpofu’s efforts have earned him notable recognition:
- Winner, Arts and Culture category at The Promised Land Awards, acknowledging his commitment to nurturing local talent.
- Nominated for the Afrluencer Awards and Ignite Youth Awards, highlighting his impact on Zimbabwe’s creative scene.
With PRACAs’ theme, “Celebrating Inclusivity, Diversity, and Creative Expression,” Mpofu aims to create a platform for artistic expression and community engagement. He encourages aspiring artists to “take risks, experiment, and push boundaries,” emphasizing the importance of support and continuous growth. Mpofu is also keen on uplifting young creatives in Bulawayo, often stating that PRACAs is “for the community, by the community.”
Upcoming Plans
- The 5th edition of PRACAs is happening on December 21 at Pumula North Hall, featuring a festival, live performances, and awards ceremony.
- Mpofu is actively seeking partnerships and sponsors to expand PRACAs’ impact, saying, “It’s a strategic call for those who wish to work with PRACA to amplify local arts.”
