Seattle-based Zimbabwean artist Draze is bringing together some of Africa’s most celebrated musical voices on his latest release, “Mazvita Remix,” an energetic Afro-fusion anthem that features Zimbabwean hitmaker Nutty O, Nigerian artist Cheekychizzy, and Cameroonian producer DJ Fredy Muks.
Set for release on Friday, July 3, the single is more than a remix. It is a cross-continental collaboration that celebrates African excellence, resilience, and unity through music, blending vibrant Afro rhythms, hip-hop influences, and traditional Zimbabwean marimba into an infectious celebration anthem.
The title “Mazvita,” which means “Thank You” in Shona, transforms gratitude into a joyous call for celebration. Designed for festivals, weddings, clubs, and community gatherings, the song encourages listeners to celebrate personal victories and support one another’s success.
Its uplifting chorus reflects that message: “They say we’ll never win, now we’re living like kings… If you’re really happy for me like you say you’re happy for me… celebrate me. Mazvita!”
The remix builds on the success of the original “Mazvita,” a song that introduced audiences worldwide to Draze’s distinctive musical style, which he describes as “Ancestral Art”—a fusion of African heritage and contemporary global sounds.
“For me, ‘Mazvita’ was the perfect introduction to my new sound, Ancestral Art,” says Draze. “Watching people from different parts of the world embrace it showed me this wasn’t just my vision anymore. It belonged to everyone who saw themselves in it.”
The release also marks a deeply personal return for the artist. While touring the United States with Kenyan supergroup Sauti Sol following the original song’s release, Draze learned that his grandmother was nearing the end of her life. He immediately returned to Zimbabwe to be with his family, taking time away from music after her passing to grieve and reflect.
Following the critically received singles “NO,” featuring Zimbabwean music legend Thomas Mapfumo, and the emotional tribute “LUE,” Draze now returns with renewed purpose.
With artists representing Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Cameroon, and the African diaspora, “Mazvita Remix” stands as a powerful statement of cultural pride and collaboration, embodying the spirit of Ancestral Art by honoring African roots while connecting audiences across borders, languages, and generations.
