Matildah Tekeshe is a Zimbabwean gospel music diva based in the United Kingdom, whose life and music are deeply rooted in faith, worship, and purpose. A gifted singer and songwriter, Matildah has become a beacon of inspiration to many, using her voice not just to entertain, but to minister, uplift, and bring people closer to God. Her gospel music journey began in high school at Highfield 2 High in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she led the Scripture Union as chairperson from 1992 to 1993. It was during this formative period that her spiritual leadership blossomed. Later, she led a powerful praise and worship team at Chitungwiza Assemblies of God Church under the guidance of Bishop Roland and Rachel Mandizera. Since moving to the UK in 2010, she has continued serving faithfully at ZAOGA FIF Ministries International in Bedford, where she leads praise and worship at both assembly and regional levels.
Matildah’s music career officially launched in 2012 with her debut album Kugona KwaMwari. She has since released five more albums: Mukana Uripo (2015), The Kingdom of God (2018), Jehovah Yahweh (2020), Seasons / Mwaka (2023), and her latest offering Shoko / The Word of God, which was released on January 29, 2025. This sixth album, a 12-track collection, emphasizes the power and necessity of aligning life with the Word of God.
“I feel so much joy and peace that this message is now birthed and being preached in songs,” she shared.
Her impact and dedication to gospel music were recently recognized at the Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Awards (ZCTA), where she received the Impactful Local Gospel Music Development (UK) award on January 31, 2025. This honor celebrates her remarkable contribution to the growth of gospel music within the diaspora and beyond.
Matildah’s musical journey is rooted in deep mentorship. She credits her sister, Tsitsi Maraba, for igniting her passion for music and prayer.
“Growing up, I was reserved and shy. I never dreamt of standing in front of people. My sister taught me how to fast, pray, and sing. That’s where it all began,” she recalls.
Her newly released music video Gore Rino is a glimpse into the powerful visuals accompanying her latest album. As she looks ahead, Matildah is passionate about embracing branding, technology, and video production to broaden her music’s reach. Equally important to her is nurturing the next generation of artists—mentoring young talents into confident songwriters and recording artists.
