Lusaka, Zambia – The Radisson Blu Hotel was the place to be on Friday the 30th of August 2024 as comedy lovers gathered for the highly anticipated “All in One Comedy Show,” headlined by the ever popular Zimbabwean comedian Nigel Tha Slick Pastor, affectionately known by his fas (the bullets) as VaSembwe. The event drew an impressive crowd, with a significant number of Zimbabweans living in Zambia joining local Zambians for a night of side-splitting humor and entertainment.

The show started promptly, setting a professional tone for the evening. The opening act featured Mic Li, a rising star on the Zambian music scene. Mic Li delivered a stellar performance that left the audience wanting more, especially with his unexpected and moving cover of “Todii” by the late Zimbabwean music legend Oliver Mtukudzi. His performance was a fitting tribute and set a high bar for the rest of the evening.
Following Mic Li, the comedy began in earnest with a performance by Ackim, a Zambian comedian who brought his unique vibe to the stage. Ackim’s easy going humor and relatable jokes quickly warmed up the audience, setting the perfect comedic tone for the acts to follow.
The energy in the room soared when Tinaye, a Zimbabwean comedian, took the stage. The crowd erupted in cheers, clearly excited to see him perform. Tinaye did not disappoint, instantly winning over the audience with his sharp wit and clever observations. One of the highlights of his set was a joke about his last name, Muroyi, which means “witch” in Shona. He quipped about avoiding church because, “Every pastor is always mentioning that the witch must die,” a line that had the audience in hysterics. Tinaye’s performance was a masterclass in comedy, with non-stop laughter throughout his set.
The night reached its peak when the main act, Nigel Tha Slick Pastor, also known as VaSembwe, took the stage. Nigel’s entrance was met with thunderous applause, and from the moment he began, he had the audience in the palm of his hand. Known for his sharp commentary and humorous takes on everyday life, Nigel wasted no time in addressing the current power cuts in Zambia, joking, “Thank you very much for coming to this comedy show and others who came to charge your phones.” The crowd erupted in laughter, appreciating the relatability of the joke.
Nigel kept the momentum going for over an hour, delivering one joke after another that had the audience laughing non-stop. His ability to connect with the crowd and tailor his jokes to the local context made his performance a standout of the night.
