Harare Open Mic Returns with Bold Focus on Collaboration

The much-loved Harare Open Mic returns in 2026 with renewed energy and an exciting new theme, as Moto Republikpledges continued support for the platform throughout the year. The first edition, themed “The Art of Collaboration,”will take place on Saturday, 28 February, from 2pm to 5pm at Moto Republik.

This edition challenges artists to step beyond individual expression and explore the power of creative partnerships. Musicians, poets, dancers and theatre makers are being encouraged to experiment together, building networks that enrich and diversify their artistic voices.

“To demonstrate this we are honoured to have Mary Anibal and Othnell ‘Mangoma’ Moyo performing on the day. The two are ever-experimenting, well-travelled, award-winning musicians who recently proved their mettle with their show ‘Village to Town Back to The Village’ held at Alliance Française de Harare,” said organiser Batsirai Chigama.

Guest performer Mary Anibal is an award-winning singer, songwriter and mbira player known for her powerful Afro-fusion sound. A 2023 Zimbabwe Music Award winner for Best Traditional (Chinyakare/Chimurenga), Mary has performed at major international festivals including Sauti Za Busara and the Masa Festival. Her debut album Maria Wenyu and recent single Bhonzo affirm her growing global footprint.

Joining her is Othnell “Mangoma” Moyo, a multi-instrumentalist, instrument builder and cultural preservation activist. Founder of the Ngoma iNgungu Cultural Arts Center in Domboshava, Mangoma has represented Zimbabwe in over 30 countries, championing indigenous African music traditions.
