Game Changer: Lord Brighton College Commits to Cultivating World-Class Artists, Athletes, and Scholars

The newly established prestigious institution, Lord Brighton College, situated in Nyabira, has unveiled a bold and ambitious vision to cultivate and nurture a new generation of exceptional artists, athletes, and scholars who will excel on the international stage and make a lasting impact in their respective fields.

This vision is supported by the school’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and a team of expert staff that has been assigned to guide students toward excellence.

While the school has made significant investments in academics, it is also redefining the role of arts and sports in education by treating these disciplines with the same level of importance as academics.

Mr. Denis Takaza, the school’s head, emphasized that Lord Brighton College is committed to providing a wholesome educational experience that nurtures every aspect of a child’s development, including their artistic and athletic potential.

“We believe every child possesses a unique gift—some in sports, others in arts or academics—and it is our responsibility as educators to identify, nurture, and develop that gift,” said Mr. Takaza.

“We hope that all educational institutions in Zimbabwe will adopt and embrace the concept of wholesome learning, which encompasses a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to education.

“This approach fosters the intellectual, emotional, social, and creative development of students, empowering them to become confident, capable, and compassionate individuals who can make a positive impact in the world,” he added.

To support music, arts, and culture, a cutting-edge Music and Arts Laboratory has been established, with Mr. Takaza expressing great enthusiasm about the initiative.

“On the musical front, we have a Music and Arts Lab designed to hone the musical and artistic skills embedded in every learner. Here, we believe every child learns at their own pace and is unique. Each student can achieve their best when guided in their own lane,” Mr. Takaza explained.

In addition, the school boasts an impressive range of sports facilities—some already operational and others nearing completion—including dedicated fields and courts for soccer, tennis, netball, hockey, water polo, baseball, and rugby.

These facilities are designed to cater for the diverse interests and talents of the students, promoting a culture of healthy competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Highlighting the importance of robust support systems in arts and sports, Mr. Takaza explained that building structures to identify, nurture, and develop artists and athletes is crucial.

“These frameworks provide a foundation for growth, guidance, and mentorship, ultimately enabling talented individuals to reach their full potential and thrive in their respective fields,” he said

Mr. Takaza emphasized that the ultimate goal of the school is to produce students who are not only exceptionally competent in their chosen fields but also disciplined, hardworking, and dedicated to their craft.

Discipline is a cornerstone of the school’s ethos, with students and teachers adhering to a uniform code of conduct. There is no bullying to talk about and no form of indiscipline is tolerated. Every child is encouraged to greet parents and teachers with a smile and a respectful greeting, fostering a culture of courtesy and discipline throughout the institution.

To ensure excellence, the school has recruited highly qualified teachers and coaches with impressive credentials in their respective fields. The arts department is led by a team of experienced educators with a proven track record of nurturing young talent.

Similarly, the sports department boasts coaches who have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, particularly in junior development programs.

One of the school’s soccer coaches, who has trained several renowned athletes, expressed confidence in the students’ potential.

“I can see that the students here have what it takes to achieve greatness,” he said. “With the facilities and support available, I have no doubt they will go on to accomplish extraordinary things.”

The school’s approach is already yielding impressive results. At a recent rugby tournament hosted by Lord Brighton, the school’s team clinched the gold medal, outperforming competitors across all categories.

The tournament drew participants from Goromonzi High, Wise Owl College, Little Giants Academy, Genesis Academy, Dolphines, Hatcliffe College, and the host, Lord Brighton College.

Students also attended a Youths and Cadets Taekwondo training seminar under the tutelage of Master Admire Tshitshiliza, a holder of a 4th Dan Black Belt.

The school has identified students with exceptional talent in various disciplines and is working closely with them to refine their skills and provide the guidance needed to excel at the highest levels.

As Zimbabwe continues to advance its education system under the Heritage-Based Curriculum, which emphasizes creative thinking, innovation, and industrialization, Lord Brighton College is aligning with the new benchmark for holistic education.

In addition to a wide range of extracurricular activities, the school—accredited by ZIMSEC and Cambridge—offers diverse academic subjects, including French, Chinese Mandarin, Art and Design, and Music.

Furthermore, students have access to advanced Science, Engineering, and Technology programs, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories designed to foster innovation and hands-on learning.

With its unwavering dedication to nurturing talent, Lord Brighton College is poised to become a beacon of excellence in arts, sports, and academics, both locally and internationally.

Mr. Takaza shared that the school’s future vision includes building a world-class sports facility to host national and international teams visiting Zimbabwe.

“Our goal is to establish a sporting academy where national teams and international teams can camp and play. All our fields will be equipped with floodlights,” he said.

Lord Brighton College is undoubtedly setting a new standard for education, one that promises to shape the leaders, creatives, innovators, and champions of tomorrow.
