Empowering the Next Generation: A Financial Literacy Workshop for Kids and Teens

In today’s challenging economic environment, it’s more crucial than ever to equip young people with the skills they need to navigate the world of finance. Recognizing this need, a vital financial literacy workshop is set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, offering kids and teens the valuable gift of financial knowledge and independence.

Hosted at Prince Edward High School on August 16, 2025, the event is led by renowned financial wellness expert and founder of Mantis Africa P/L, Gabriel Chipara.

The workshop is designed to introduce young Zimbabweans to essential financial concepts and skills that many parents may not have had the opportunity to learn. Topics covered will include managing finances, entrepreneurship, and making smart financial decisions, all aimed at helping attendees develop healthy financial habits that will last a lifetime.

Attendees will also hear from prominent leaders, including Ken Sharpe, CEO of WestProp Holdings, and Sylvia Sanyanga, an award-winning entrepreneur and founder of The Nate Foundation, who will join virtually to share their insights. In a rapidly changing economic landscape, such expert guidance is essential for young people to adapt and succeed.

The workshop is thoughtfully divided into two sessions to cater to different age groups: a session for kids from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a session for teens from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beyond the core curriculum, the day will feature a host of engaging activities. Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their small businesses, fostering an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. They will also get to meet special guests, including members of the Sables team, media personality Tendai Chakanyuka, and parenting and teens coach Chipo Gozho.

Further enriching the experience, representatives from Legacy Creation Academy will be on hand to discuss wealth creation and legacy planning, while Dream House Pictures Film Studio will provide insights for aspiring filmmakers. Recognizing the importance of a holistic approach to well-being, counselors will be available on-site to provide free counseling services to parents and teachers as well.

“Through the generosity of well-wishers and partners, we look forward to extending the benefits of these life-changing trainings to the less fortunate, including orphans, ensuring that they too can reap the rewards of these ongoing initiatives.”

Parents who register also have a chance to win prizes, including mentorship sessions and spa treatments, courtesy of Legacy Creation Academy and Mirage Beauty Spa. This workshop is a powerful step toward empowering the next generation of Zimbabweans to achieve financial success and build a brighter future.
