DT Bio Mudimba is quietly but firmly establishing himself as one of the most important voices in sungura today. Song after song, he continues to deliver gems. He music, refreshingly, does not just echo the genre’s past but redefines its present. For me, Bio is the torchbearer of sungura’s future.

His songs don’t aim to be instant chart-toppers; instead, they grow on you slowly, wrapping around your heart and refusing to let go. From his breakout hit Kujata Jata to his latest offering Twabeyi Shuwa, DT Bio has yet to release a mediocre track.
In recent years, many fans have lamented sungura’s lack of sonic diversity. Much of the music has felt like endless variations of Alick Macheso’s style. A style that, while groundbreaking, has become a template few dare to deviate from. Macheso revolutionised sungura with a sound built on collective virtuosity. In his music, no instrument lingers in the background, each musician shines, every melody demands attention. He turned intricate, layered arrangements into the genre’s gold standard, a formula many have tried and failed to replicate with the same finesse.
Macheso is a legend and regent of sungura. He sits comfortably now, having done the heavy lifting for decades, and his contributions remain unmatched. But every regent must one day pass the torch. In DT Bio Mudimba, we may finally have found the heir.”
He dared to be different and, in my view, can carry sungura forward without losing its soul. DT Bio Mudimba gives me hope that the genre still has life. One hopes that vana muronda tsimba will not go for his sound leading him to experiment wrongly in an effort to remain uniquely outstanding.

His latest track Twabeyi Shuwa is another example of his brilliance. It’s a socially conscious song that explores how jealousy corrodes relationships among friends, family, and communities. It’s a reality many Zimbabweans know all too well, especially in a society where opportunities are scarce and envy is often just beneath the surface. But more importantly, the song isn’t just about exposing this problem. It’s about healing, mending broken ties and finding a way back to each other.
