The Upenyu Festival is set to take centre stage as part of Nyaradzo’s 25-year celebrations, offering a fresh and meaningful approach to how life is experienced, especially among young people. Far from being just another music event, the festival is designed as a vibrant platform that celebrates life in its entirety while encouraging positive, healthy living.

Derived from the Shona word “Upenyu,” meaning life, the festival is rooted in the philosophy that life should be celebrated daily not only remembered at its end. This concept signals a shift in perspective, one that embraces both the highs and lows of everyday existence.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Nyaradzo’s Head of Strategic Solutions and Corporate Affairs, Tendayi Gwatiringa, emphasized the importance of redefining how people connect with life. He noted that Upenyu is about actively celebrating life every single day, rather than viewing it as a moment marked only by its conclusion.
The festival will revolve around ten core themes that give life meaning, including wellness, nature, water, food, laughter, friendship, sunshine, love, music, dance, and shared experiences. These elements will be woven into the festival experience, creating an immersive and uplifting environment for attendees.
A key focus of Upenyu is youth engagement. Organisers are intentional about creating a safe and positive space where young people can gather, connect, and celebrate without the influence of harmful social habits. The festival aims to promote healthier lifestyle choices while fostering a culture of joy, connection, and community.
Music will be at the heart of the celebration, featuring a dynamic lineup of artists known for their ability to inspire. South African DJ DJ Maphorisa will headline, alongside celebrated performers Sha Sha and MaWhoo, supported by a range of local talent. The inclusion of amapiano reflects its growing cultural influence and its power to unite audiences through rhythm and dance.
Nyaradzo’s Stakeholder and Communications Solutions Officer, Prudence Muganiwah, assured festival-goers of a seamless experience, with top-tier sound production, adequate facilities, diverse food options, and a cashless wristband system to enhance convenience.
With interactive games and activities planned throughout the venue, Upenyu promises an engaging atmosphere from start to finish. As anticipation builds, the festival is poised to stand out as a bold and refreshing celebration of life, community, and youthful energy.
