Cimas Health Group has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Zimbabwe’s public health sector by supporting the second edition of the Egypt–Zimbabwe Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission, also known as Open Heart Camp 2.

Held at Parirenyatwa Hospital, the week-long mission saw 10 Zimbabwean children, aged between six months and 10 years, undergo life-saving surgeries for congenital heart defects. These are abnormalities present at birth that affect the heart’s structure and function. Zimbabwe records an estimated 4,500 such cases annually.
Led by a team of visiting Egyptian cardiac specialists in collaboration with local health professionals, the initiative builds on the success of the first Open Heart Camp held in November 2024 — also backed by Cimas Health Group.
“This aligns with our purpose to inspire healthier communities,” said Cimas Health Group Chief Executive Officer Mr. Vuli Ndlovu. “Having witnessed the life-changing impact of the first camp, we were compelled to return. We remain committed to supporting healthcare delivery aligned with Vision 2030.”
Mr. Ndlovu highlighted that the initiative not only saves lives but also helps build local capacity in paediatric cardiac care — a field still underdeveloped in Zimbabwe and across the region. He affirmed Cimas’s openness to further partnerships, adding, “Despite economic headwinds, our determination remains unshaken. We are not driven solely by profit, but by a responsibility to save lives.”
The mission was made possible through collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the Embassy of Egypt in Zimbabwe, the National Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe (NOIC), Gift of Life International (USA), the Rotary Club of Harare Central, The Avenues Clinic, and Cimas Health Group, among others.
Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Sleiman Kwidini, lauded the mission as a model of Public–Private Partnership (PPP) success.
“To our committed local sponsors, NOIC, The Avenues Clinic, and Cimas, your contribution defines true corporate citizenship,” he said. “You are investing in healthcare, in futures, and in the vision of a stronger Zimbabwe under Vision 2030.”
The Avenues Clinic General Manager, Mrs. Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu, echoed the sentiment. “As a private healthcare institution, we’re proud to support this life-changing initiative. We believe in partnerships that put people first.”
The mission also drew praise for the tireless efforts of Zimbabwean medical teams whose dedication made the surgeries possible.
