Simba “Bridgez” Chimanga is the driving pulse behind Winky D’s explosive live shows and the ascending heartbeat of Zimbabwean music across Africa. Known for his fiery energy, laser-sharp precision, and unstoppable passion, Bridgez was recently crowned Best Instrumentalist / Music Virtuoso of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Merit Awards a victory that resonates not just for him, but for every young Zimbabwean daring to dream beyond borders.
Bridgez’s story begins in Greencroft, Harare a modest neighborhood buzzing with ambition. I remember our early days at Hallingbury Primary School, where his love for rhythm was impossible to ignore. What started as hours of disciplined drumming in local Harare churches soon evolved into a career that now spans continents.
Today, Bridgez has performed in countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia, proving that no dream is too distant when fueled by relentless dedication and resilience.
Bridgez isn’t just a part of the music, he propels it. He has worked with numerous artists such as Bryan K, Gemma Griffiths and Tinashe Makura before joining Winky D’s band the Vigilance. As the powerhouse behind the Vigilance Band, his drumming ignites firestorms of energy, transforming packed stadiums and intimate venues into electrified spaces of rhythm and story.
His Ghana Merit Award win stands as proof that Zimbabwean artistry belongs not only on African stages but on the global stage.
Simba’s success rests on more than raw talent. It’s also a conscious pursuit of knowledge. Currently studying Music Business, Musicology, and Music Technology at Midlands State University, he is building the intellectual muscle to complement his artistry.
Beyond the stage, Bridgez is a drum tutor at Hartmann House, where he inspires the next generation with lessons that extend beyond technique: “Don’t choose between passion and education let them fuel each other.”

The energy on stage is electric, and together we push each other to deliver performances that leave lasting impressions. It’s inspiring and motivating every single day.”
Q: What advice do you have for young musicians about balancing school? A: “Your gift can take you far, but knowledge will take you further. Education equips you to innovate and build something lasting.”
Q: What’s next? A: “Right now, I’m enjoying every moment with the Vigilance Band and seeing where this incredible journey takes me. I’m exploring new opportunities in production and building platforms for rising talent, but I’m taking it step by step — grounded by the drums, yet open to whatever paths the road ahead reveals.”
