UK based music star Shumba Maasai drops Composure

Zimbabwean-born, London-based artist Shumba Maasai returns with brand new single ‘Composure’.

After an incredible year, the Plus TRBE Recordings founding member enlists UK producer Hermes. The track has already been making waves after being premiered live on Boiler Room earlier this year. Combined with the thunderous bass and Shumba’s conviction, this makes for a dark yet playful record.

Alongside his Plus TRBE Recordings and MC duties, Maasai is the lead instigator of the already legendary collective Ancestral Futures. Through all of these creative ventures, he plays with the complexity of identity in the diaspora community, lyrically combining the London experience with his Zimbabwean identity.

The tune is inspired by the ancient Chinese proverb “It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in war.” this for me means always staying calm and composed in face of war or adversity”

Shumba is a true innovator with a promising future – already receiving recognition as Reprezent Radio’s Ones To Watch 2021 and garnering radio support from the likes of Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Mary Anne Hobbs on 6 Music and Tone’s Diaspora Distins on Worldwide FM

This single builds on his steadily growing momentum as it follows his appearance on Theon Cross’ album Intra-I, and a string of his own singles including ‘Top Boyz’ with Hurricane, and a collaboration with prolific south London jazz collective Steam Down on ‘Cant Hold Me Back’.

2022 will see Shumba Maasai continue to make waves across the UK circuit and beyond, with more singles and live experiences with his Ancestral Futures collective.
