Solid debut album from rising Nigerian singer Ifé.

The Nigerian born Singer, Songwriter and performing artiste – Ifé real name Ifechukwu Mercy Michael last week released her debut album titled Sunset and Paragraphs an album built on Love, Appreciation, History, discourages disunity and encourages hard work. It is a solid body of work.

A graduate of Music and Performing Arts from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria, Ifé centers her music and sound on African culture, heritage, mother tongue and advocacy for the girl-child fusing these ideologies into Alternative highlife, Afro-Soul, and Pop music. 

Life has been about singing for Ifé who was born in a family where singing was the norm. At the age of ten (10) years joined the chorus of traditional music that engulfed her household. Her father and mother were professional Singers who recorded three (3) albums at their peak.

Ifé has released over eleven (11) records, including a body of work which she titled “DarkLight”. An Extended Play that is considered to be revolutionary and inspirational. She has worked with notable acts in Nigeria and internationally. They include; Umu Obiligbo, Smarty from Burkina Faso on the African Union theme song for #AfricaEducatesHer campaign to return girls to school, Ahec 3, Unchained XL From New Zealand, DJ Koffi from the United Kingdom and many others. 

Ifé is here again with her debut album titled “Sunset and Paragraphs”. She describes the album as our lives in chapters, words and melodies. The album is about everyone on planet Earth. Every single person has a song or more telling their stories on the album. Each track is considered as a Paragraph.

The album features Smarty, a French rapper from Burkina Faso, on the track “I love Africa”.

I Love Africa is a song that expresses the beauty of Africa, her challenges through colonization and the resilient spirit of Africans. It tells the story of the African struggles. It captures the victories of Thomas Sankara, Miriam Makeba, Nelson Mandela and many others.”

The song Smarty solidifies the uniqueness of Africa and urges Africans to stand in unity and urges the continent to be bold to whilst remaining true to themselves.

Sunset and Paragraphs is an album built on Love, Appreciation, History, discourages disunity and encourages hard work.

In a live televised album listening session on the 18th of November 2021 Ifé gave a polished performance and narration of each song on the album.

Ifé represents many African souls seeking to journey home, seeking to have a feel of the African ideals and to represent these ideals. It takes calling to discern such a journey, courage to begin it and tenacity to remain undeterred. She is set to journey almost forever on that path she is convinced that leads home.
