FRYA a music star on fire set to drop debut Album

This past week Zimbabwean social media space was abuzz with celebrations over the premiere of South Africa’s Netflix series Blood and Water which carries a number of Zim footprints. One of the major highlights is Johannesburg based FRYA.

The Zimbabwe-born singer-songwriter and vocal powerhouse FRYA has five which songs are featured on Season 2 of the Netflix’s second African original hit series Blood & Water, four of which are from her debut album ‘Balance’ due for release next month; all alongside the series theme song creation she collaborated on with renowned producer Mr Kamera.


This is a monumental feat for a new artist who is yet to release a full body of work and a true testament to Frya’s star power and talent. The Johannesburg based artist is delighted to share a piece of herself with the world. Blood & Water Season 2 which premiered on Friday 24th September on Netflix.  


The four songs Chandelier, Back it Up, Calculate and Changes are part of her much anticipated forthcoming debut album, Balance,  which is currently up for pre-order and set for full release on the 22nd October 2021.

earGROUND caught up with the beautiful, super talented and smooth talking FRYA who shared her amazing musical journey and her vision for the future. The interview will air on earGROUND Youtube channel later this week.

”I feel extremely blessed about the Blood & Water placements and having had the opportunity to do the soundtrack which is a key piece of a show’s identity. To have a huge machine like Netflix and the Blood & Water production team believe in my sound and vision by placing nearly half of my debut album in this incredible show with amazing African talent, is so surreal. I am still in the beginning of my career, such milestones make the journey that much more amazing.”


Her vocal prowess, relatable yet powerful writing skills and her versatile sonic embodiment makes Frya an artist to watch from the continent.

Her sound is unique and fresh, inspired by her exposure to different parts of the world, having lived abroad.
