SA’s Zozibini Tunzi handed over the reigns to the to Mexico’s Andrea Meza during the finale of the 69th Miss Universe pageant in Hollywood, Florida, on Sunday held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Florida USA.

Zozibini Tunzi is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe 2019. Tunzi had previously been crowned Miss South Africa 2019. She is the third woman from South Africa to win the title, and the first black woman since Angolan Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe 2011.

Her acceptance statement after her win in 2019 became a global statement whose words will inspire, reverberate and resonate with many young black people for generations.
“I grew up in ha world where a woman who looks like me with my kind of skin and my kind of hair was never considered to be beautiful,” Miss South Africa said. “And I think that’s time that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”

Tunzi an activist who fights against gender-based violence and a huge advocate for natural beauty will forever be loved and appreciated as an icon.
After handing over the crown Zozibini posted a deeply compelling message of gratitude to the world.
