Second edition of The Arts Gathering Festival beckons

Its the festival season in Zimbabwe and despite the global Covid_19 pandemic creatives are soldiering on in defiance. Whilst a number of initiatives and events have been hard hit by the situation The Arts Gathering – TAG2020 festival will go ahead.

The multidiscipline arts festival featuring dance, visual art, theatre, fashion design, music, comedy and spoken word showcases was launched last year by a conglomerate of cultural institutions namely AfriKera Arts Trust, Music Crossroads Academy of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Theatre Academy.

“We have been encouraged to adapt and sustain in the spirit of determination to present yet another TAG festival.”

This year’s theme, “Stage left, Stage right, Stage Zoom” highlights the hybrid nature of the proceedings, the physical and digital adaptation of the performing arts in this “New Normal”.

The tripartite organizers of TAG concede that they are responding to the times. 

However the festival has been confined to only two venues in compliance with the Covid-19 measures. The AfriKera Dance Theatre Hub and ythe virtual space will be the centre stage for the two day festival running from the 29th to the 30th of October 2020.

Select performances and discussion sessions will be hosted on Zoom, while a limited number of guests are invited to enjoy live performances as per COVID-19 compliance measures applied at AfriKera.

The performances are free but donations are welcome.

In a message through a press statement TAG 2020 urges people not to be turned into an antisocial square by social distancing as they promise two days of co-creation, animated discussions and reinvention of how we experience the arts.
