European Film Festival Zimbabwe 2020: Masterclass invites applicants

A Call for applications for the 2020 Art Department Masterclass is NOW OPEN’. This class is aimed at showcasing the importance of the art department, especially props and sets in film production.

The masterclass titled UNDERSTANDING YOUR FRAME  is a week-long programme aimed at showcasing the importance of the art department, especially props and sets in film production. 

These sessions will be facilitated by AK Simba,  a Ugandan props master based in Belgium; in collaboration with Zimbabwean filmmakers Joe Njagu and Trevor Ncube. The masterclass sessions will be hosted from the 2nd to the 6th of November 2020 in Bulawayo and Harare, respectively, with a maximum of 12 participants in each class.

The class is open to all filmmakers, with minimum experience in film required. Due to the COVID -19 global pandemic, this year’s edition while be hosted online via Zoom/Skype.

The location for attendance will be communicated by the European Film Festival Zimbabwe ground coordinator. And with respect to the World Health Organisation Standard Operating Procedure, space will be limited.

The main goal for this class is to inspire filmmakers who are keen on sharpening their craft. Understanding the frame is a very unique concept of storytelling using symbolism. The class will help you understand in-depth how the art department, especially props, have a great influence on how we Africans tell our stories.
