Hub UnConference at Shoko Festival 2020 goes virtual

In light of the Covid19 pandemic, it is only befitting that Zimbabwe’s biggest annual new media and journalism event, The Hub UnConference at Shoko Festival goes virtual on its 8th edition LIVE on Facebook and Youtube.

This year the programming will be over 6 days with bite sized sessions scheduled throughout the duration of the conference. You can look forward to Women Create Worlds Summit , The Podcast Festival, Lightning Talks, discussions on new digital trends and legislations as well as virtual masterclasses.

In our bid to keep innovating and bringing relevant conversations this Hub UnConference will bring debut sessions such as the Video Indaba, Mayor’s Indaba, Zim Hip Hop Awards MasterClass, Keyboard Warriors Meetup and the 1st edition of the African Satire Convention.

The annual Hub Awards will award innovative cutting edge initiatives that address community problems through digital media and civic technology.

Since the awards began they have provided a lifeline to over 20 start ups in Zimbabwe. These include Urban Xulture, Afro Tokyo, Bustop TV, Road Rules, Girls Speak Out, TV Yangu, Spiked and Zim Girls Code. This year’s edition has US$ 4,000 as prize money to be split among four winners in the following categories:

WOMEN RISING AWARD

An award given to a startup/organisation advocating for women’s rights & voice using new media & technology.

SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER AWARD

An award for a new media solution & platform encouraging accountability & dialogue (with local authorities, city council, local government & government).
