They say an apple never falls far from the tree, the saying goes true for the 23 year old Jazz and Afropop artist Gary Tight, son to the living legend Willom Tight.

A dexterous and fearless artist who is determined to conquer the world of music. We caught up with Gary as  prepares to perform at one of the biggest events in Zimbabwean history, the return concert for Thomas Mapfumo in less than two weeks.

“The journey has been overwhelming so far. A lot of bustops but i think im getting ther now’’ he admited.

“2018 is promising to be a big year. I have new management now in Godfrey bakasa and we have set our 2018 goals that we are working hard on everyday to achieve them“

He is promising an unforgettable performance, iam certain that memories from his wow show at the Tarrus Riley concert are still fresh. We can not wait to see how he plans to scale the bar from then.

Sharing the stage with two phonomenal music icons DR Tuku and Mukanya is a historical fete especially at Gary’s age. The show will definitely inspire a generation.

“The Thomas Mapfumo gig is a big platform for me but i dont want it to put pressure on me and the band. To be part of such an event is something musician of my age can never dream of becoming part of. Its not just any other show or like those international act headlined shows. This is one of the biggest shows in Zimbabwe.”

At a time when most artists are literary struggling with their careers, Gary is upbeat about his new management and his bookings speak volumes.

He relevealed to Earground that he will be releasing a mother’s day song late this month and is targetting to release a new song every monday from his singles collection.

Still basking in the glory of his recent song with Oliver Mtukudzi titled Ndizarurireyi, Gary revealed that he has two forthcoming collaborations with Stunner and Nox.

As Tight’s name continues to swell in the industry, he is currently on a whirlwind of tours around Zimbabwe with the Gombwe, Winky D and last week they performed in Kariba and this week they are heading out to Zvishavane.

“I think professionalism from both artists and promoters will make the arts industry improve more because there is a lot of exploitation of female artists from fellow male artists or promoters and also a lot of shortchanging that is hindering the growth of the industry”, added Gary on what he thinks are the challenges facing the showbiz and possible solution.

His word to fellow young artists especially Zimdancehall, “We are the future the industry will never extinct aslong as we remain humble, refrain from substance abuse and also lets work hard”
